California FREE Vision Care For Uninsured

The California Vision Foundation is a non-profit, optometric charity designed to provide low-income, working, uninsured families throughout the state of California with free comprehensive eye exams and low cost glasses.

Here's the link to their website:

http://californiavision.org/patients.html

Information for Patients

Qualifications:
Individuals must meet the following criteria to qualify for a free eye exam and low cost glasses:

  1. There must be at least one adult in the household that is employed at least part-time.
  2. The household must qualify as low income.
  3. The individual applying for the exam may not have had an exam in the past two (2) years.
  4. The individual applying for the exam may not have vision insurance.

How to Apply:
Applications are available on this website (click here for application)
or call 1-800-877-5738 and request one by mail or fax.

What to Expect:
Once an individual has qualified for the program, every attempt will be made to match them with a volunteer optometrist in their area. Optometrists are donating their services and are, therefore, limited in some areas. Waiting times depend on the number of available appointments and the amount of qualified applicants in any particular area. An average waiting period is 2 to 3 months, but can vary from city to city.

All applicants that have been matched to an optometrist will receive a letter in the mail containing the name, address and telephone number of the optometrist that they can call to schedule an appointment. Appointments will not be scheduled for patients who fail to contact the optometrist’s office within 60 days of receiving notification of eligibility.

Every attempt is made to assign members of the same family or household to the same doctor, but individuals will be sent to different doctors if it allows them to be seen in a shorter time frame. While an entire family or household may use just one application to apply for the program, all individuals who qualify for the program will receive their own letter detailing the doctor they have been assigned to.

Qualified patients will receive a free comprehensive eye exam. If glasses are needed, they will be provided for a fee of $20.

For website information.

Financial Aid for Eye Care

Many state and national resources regularly provide aid to people with vision problems. The National Eye Institute, which supports eye research, does not help individuals pay for eye care. However, if you are in need of financial aid to assess or treat an eye problem, you might contact one or more of the following programs.

You may also contact a social worker at a local hospital or other community agency. Social workers often are knowledgeable about community resources that can help people facing financial and medical problems.
Eye Exams and Surgery

    * EyeCare America, a public service foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). Provides comprehensive eye exams and care for up to one year, often at no out-of-pocket expense to eligible callers through its seniors and Diabetes EyeCare Programs. Its Glaucoma EyeCare Program provides a glaucoma eye exam. The EyeCare America Children's EyeCare Program educates parents and primary care providers about the importance of early childhood (newborn through 36 months of age) eye care. Macular Degeneration

http://www.ahaf.org/macular/?gclid=CLiJtZC-z58CFSgtawodeQUg0A

Click the link to learn more about Macular Degeneration, treatment for it, living with it, news updates, resources and more.

Macular degeneration causes deterioration of the macula, the central area of the retina, the paper-thin tissue at the back of the eye where light sensitive cells send visual signals to the brain. Sharp, clear, straight-ahead vision is processed by the macula, and damage to it results in blind spots and blurred or distorted vision. Those affected by macular degeneration find many daily activities such as driving and reading, increasingly difficult. Macular degeneration usually affects individuals older than 50 years of age, and scientific evidence shows that genes may play a role in the development of nearly three out of four cases of this devastating eye disease.

About Tennessee

Hello,

I hate to even ask for help, but I am having problems functioning due to eye injuries to both eyes.  Both my corneas are damaged from ultraviolet radiation.  I suffer from painful, burning sensations in my eyes almost 24 hours a day.  The pain becomes so severe sometimes that I can't even sleep.

I also have eye floaters in my eyes from the injury.  They are very distracting and make it difficult to leave the house, especially on a sunny day.  I am trying to raise a son by myself since his mother passed away last October.

I know I don't have cancer or anything life threatening.  However, the eye damage has impacted my life and kept me from doing the things I was used to doing.  I am planning on having surgery in March to remove the floaters from my eyes.  I am scared to death, but I know it will make me more comfortable and productive in society.  If anybody knows of resources out there to help people with eye injuries or surgical procedures, please let me know.

In addition to being able to provide these awesome benefit programs, I also help people/moms work from home and earn an income with Ameriplan.  It's truly been a blessing for me and I am excited about spreading the word about this fabulous company.  I now get to be home with my kids and not miss those amazing moments and I get to do what I want to do when I want to do it!

Help me to help others

Hi, I'm not sick and thankfully neither are any of my family, I'm not unemployed and am just about keeping my head above water.  So why am I here?

Well I believe in the old saying that if you give a man a fish, you'll feed him for a day, but if you teach him how to fish, he'll feed himself and his village for life.

For the past four years I have been trying to fund my dream of a centre for educational excellence.

I've taken it as far as I can on my wages whilst trying to keep a family. If I could get some help from you right now, I would not only be able to give up my job to focus on my project, but eventually, once the whole project is built, I would be able to employ up to 100 people and educate thousands of visitors and school children for years to come.

By now you want to know more about the project right? Well, go to : www.kelticaironagevillage.com and read all about it. Everything you see has come out of my minimum wage job and right now I'm basically the guy with the vision and expertise and experience in the genre but I don't have the money to take the next step!!!!

If you like some part of the vision and want to help, whether its a penny, a dollar or more your donation can be made through paypal:  kelticaironagevillage@yahoo.ca

Or if you want to know more or think you can help in some other way than money drop me a line : info@kelticaironagevillage.com

Your donation today will not just help me to help myself, it will help me to help a whole lot more people.

Thanks for your time.  Will
